Month of the military child

Though, I risk my life for others

I’ve known no war besides the ones that happen in my head.

Locked inside, my emotions are caged, imprisoned by anxiety of getting close

to someone I know I will leave.

By fear, fearing the changes that are inevitable, like a beat, a rhythm;

a death march to all that is familiar.

The life of a military child is like being on your toes all day until it strains

until the pain is always present because the military always moves
