2023/Xavier-

Everybody has to face life’s challenges and setbacks. However, some people have to experience large difficulties and stresses, even as children. Military children are an example of this. They encounter multiple challenges that most nonmilitary people never experience. Military children face their parent’s deployment, moving frequently and the stresses that brings, and having to move away from trusted friends.

Although I am not a military child and I have never experienced firsthand the deployment of a parent, I feel that it must be super challenging. There have been several instances in my life where one of my parents has not been at home, and although it was only for a few weeks, it was still hard. Having to experience that over much longer periods of time must be extremely difficult! It amazes me that military children go through many periods of time like these.

I also don’t have to move every few years, but I have the opportunity to live on MCAS Iwakuni, and I have seen many people move. The stresses of moving to a completely new place and new school, I would imagine, are super intense. Moving to a new place means leaving all of your old friends behind, which would be very hard. I go to school with mostly military kids, so military kids are my friends, which means I have had to see many of my friends leave for new places. Even that is a lot for me, so I can’t imagine leaving all of your friends, over and over again. This is what makes military children super strong and amazing for being able to live through all of these struggles.
