A Military Introvert

I have spent so much time trying to deny it. But the truth is, I’m an introvert. I often find myself working alone, or not wanting to leave my house for things I planned yesterday. One day, I will be laughing and fooling around with friends. But the next day, I just want to be alone. Albus Dumbledore - a character created by J.K. Rowling in her book series Harry Potter - once said, “Understanding is the first step to acceptance, and only with acceptance can there be recovery.” There is no way I can overcome these traits if I don’t even know why they exist. In order to step out of my comfort zone, I need to look back at my life. I am a military child. And I spent half my life living in England. But eventually our family had to go somewhere else, and the best choice was Korea. This move greatly changed my life. Not only was I leaving my friends, but the Corona Virus had just erupted all over the world. This meant, my seventh grade year began completely online. I had no chance to make any friends. So I adapted. I learned to work by myself, with no social interactions whatsoever. After a while, I ended up making some great friendships in Korea, but it was extremely difficult. This event completely changed my social mindset. Now that I know how I got this mindset, I can finally recover and step out of my comfort zone.
