Human Superman

My dad’s a Disabled American Veteran; he served in the old days.

He’s honorable and stoic, standing tall with a bod gaze.

Wearing camo and carrying ammo, a proud U.S. Marine

Serving American from the age of seventeen.

He worked as an Interrogator during the war in Iraq.

My big brother, also a U.S. Marine; like them, I want to follow my bloodline’s tracks.

My great-grandpa was a paratrooper in the Korean War.

I also want to fly high and soar.

I want to show everybody that I’m a Robinson

By being smart, getting work done, and showing my strength within.

But if I named the downsides of my dad’s service, I could name three—

One: Injuries; Two: Pain; and Three: PTSD.

My dad is disabled from something that happened in a flash.

He broke his neck in a helicopter crash.

Now he has titanium inside most of his neck.

My little brother calls him Terminator as a gag,

But my dad’s a cheerful man, so the nickname makes him laugh.

Even with his injury, he works hard so that we can live well,

And money’s never tight.

He doesn’t stop working, even if his neck pains him every night.

In the Marines, he made sure that American was safe,

But now he makes our family feel secure, as his top priority is family.

From the time I was born to my current life here in Japan

I’ve known my father as a human Superman.
