The military is great and all, but sometimes it can be really frustrating. As my sister started the United States Air Force Academy, I just thought about how the military can take away the people you love the most.

“Can you drive any faster mom?” my little brother asked.

We had been driving for hours and hours, much more than we could handle. It was the middle of June, 2021, and we were all burning in the car, waiting to approach the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. My family and I were on our way to drop off our sister at the Air Force Academy. We were all so tired and we were ready to jump out of the car, whenever we would stop. Around 20 minutes later, we finally arrived and all rushed out of the heating car.

“I’m really gonna miss you sis,” I told my sister as we were walking to the entrance of her new college.

“I’m super scared, but I know I’ll be fine,” she replied to me. We finally came to a stop as the entrance doors were awaiting her to come in. We all gave her hugs and I started crying.

“We all love you and we will miss you like crazy,” my mom explained.

“Break a leg,” my older brother said.

“Goodbye y’all!” my sister said one last time. “Love you!” we all said at the same time sounding like we were about to cry. My older sister opened the door and disappeared into the building. We all walked away, not saying a word.
