Growing Up in a Military Family

My name is Immarie, and I was born in Yokosuka. When I go to a new school I look for friends to play with. When I told my friends when I was moving away, they were sad because some were in my class, and they were my friends all year long. I learned to fit in at my new school by getting new friends on the first day of school. At first I was shy, but I felt better after I made a new friend. What I like about my new house was that my brother and I switched spaces. He switched with me, because I was close to the stairs, and that scared me. He ahd my Dad are always protecting me. I also got to choose my own bed. Getting the bed was a surprise from my Dad.

My Dad has been serving in the US Navy since 2002 (23 years). He was born and raised in the Philippines, and he joined the Navy in Oklahoma. My dad likes to play soccer. His favorite food is Esopado (pork with Saba bananas). His favorite dessert is anything with cookies-n-cream. His favorite drink is water. He loves the colors blue and orange. He likes to play on his computer, sleep and hang out with the family. My Dad is a production officer of NBU 7. My Dad likes being in the Navy, because we get to live in Japan and experience other cultures.

My Dad thinks that it’s hard to move sometimes, because we have to pack and adjust to a new place. My Dad says that seeing Dubai was the most interesting thing he’s seen. At first, Dubai was just a desert, and now it is a mega city.

My Dad likes the different experiences we’ve had and the cultures we learn while being stationed overseas. He grew up with 4 siblings in his family, and he had 2 children of his grew. It is hard packing up when we move. We have to plan ahead and separate things that we want to be packed or to be boxed. It’s hard to say goodbye to our family and friends. When I told my family and friends that I was moving, they were sad. He was able to make friends quickly when we moved.

The best thing about taking care of his children, is that my Dad gets to see us grow into responsible members of our family and Society. Gaming night is a chance for us to spend some time with our family.
