Life as a Military- Connected child

Life as a Military- connected child was very different from when I was living a normal life in the United States. When I was going to school in the United States without being in a base, there were a lot of things that could occur because it was not as safe and as controlled as a school in a Military base. I am not saying that all of the US is not safe, because there is crime everywhere, but I have never experienced witnessing a dangerous crime before while living in a base. That means I can sometimes walk alone at night to places like the movie theater in Yokota air base without being as fearful.

Being a “Military - Connected child” still means I have to move from one country or another when my parents get sent to a new position. There are a lot of pros and some cons of moving all the time. For me I would say it was interesting moving to another country because I get to experience what it is like living there, I could also learn a lot of languages. The cons that happen with moving a lot would be that I have to adjust a lot and I have to leave some of my old friends behind and start over. That does not mean I do not speak to them anymore, it just means that I don't see them often.

It is true that most other people will transfer to a lot of countries while being a Military child but I have only transferred to one and it is Japan. I went to a lot of bases in Japan but I lived in 3 Okinawa, Yokota and Misawa. I started in Okinawa where it is very hot and I went up north to Yokota and I went even further north to Misawa, so it started getting colder. We are allowed to travel in the summer to a lot of different countries too.

Being a Military-connected child can be very cool sometimes, from seeing and hearing all of the jets fly to moving to different countries so I try to enjoy it as much as possible because I know a lot of people won’t be able to experience it.
