It’s similar, but different.

The first time we moved to Japan I was five and we lived there for four years. I don't remember much about moving itself, but I do remember feeling anxious beforehand because my parents both went away to get ready for the move.

Being a kid affiliated with the military isn't the same for everyone.

My dad works for the US Navy as a DOD civilian. When living in the states my dad travels for work a lot, but working in Japan he's able to be home every night.

I was twelve when I moved back to Japan. The military wasn’t directing us to go, but rather giving us an opportunity and it was a family decision to return. My parents asked what our thoughts were. Could we leave our friends, family, and our homeschool group? I felt excited about going back to Japan and really enjoyed living there before. I would miss my friends and family, but yes, I would love to move back! There are so many positive things about living in Japan. The military base has many American style things so I rarely have to miss things from the states, and I have enjoyed many new adventures only available in Japan.
