Life as a military child

There are many changes that come with being a military child. I have to adapt to a new life, make new friends, and start over. These changes are hard. It is also fun, because I get to meet new people and see different places.

Adjusting & adapting to new places is hard, because each place has something different about it. For example, in Okinawa I am learning Japanese culture & language. At first, the language was hard to understand and remember. Now I love to learn new things, and share information with my family and friends.

Going to a new school means making new friends. I’m shy and it takes me time to get to know new people. I love making new friends, but sometimes I get nervous when I am a new student. I met my best friend in Okinawa, and we plan to stay in touch wherever we go.

Moving is hard because I can’t bring all my loved ones with me. I try to call my family, but sometimes the time difference gets in the way. Not seeing my grandparents is hard, but talking to them makes me happy. I miss my family but knowing that they love me is enough.

Being a military child can be a mix of emotions. I know I can adapt, make new friends, and start new. My family may be far, but I know they love me. I am brave wherever I go.
