2024/Kei-

I think that being a military child is a challenge in itself. Though there are plenty of opportunities that could outweigh the difficulties of being a military child, the struggles and sacrifices that come with it can greatly compare with the positives. I do admit that as a military child, traveling overseas and living in new countries is thrilling but I do wish to live some sort of normalcy.

Being a military child is all about sacrifice. I feel like everywhere I go, I have to sacrifice something in exchange for moving to another country. One recurring sacrifice would be my friends. I can’t move without having to say goodbye and it sometimes feels like it’s the tax for even having the opportunity to move. I don’t feel very close with my family either. I never had the time to truly bond with my outer family and it feels a bit odd considering many would say they’re quite close to their cousins or grandparents. Since we’re always moving, I suppose I never had a place that I could call “home.” Familiarity and being a military family does not come in hand.

However, being a military brat isn’t all that bad. I appreciate all the benefits of being a military child. I know many struggle with medical bills or even college funds and the fact the military is there to fund these things for us is an amazing advantage. As mentioned before, I really do cherish the opportunity to move. I love living in new countries and being able to find out more about the place. In all honesty, being a military child is hard but it’s not so bad at times.
