Living in Iwakuni or anywhere other than America can affect you in any way. It’s definitely hard to be away from my family and friends but I’m getting opportunities here that I wouldn’t have in the states. What I’ve learned while being here is that you’ll gain and lose people. It’s hard to have my friends leave but I love meeting new people. Living in a place where you have to be away from your family for years at a time can really affect your mental state. While I’ve been here, I’ve noticed so many different things, not just in my area but the people I surround myself with. I find it somewhat helpful to live somewhere far away from home because it’s really helping me grow as a person. I really enjoy being able to experience this crazy change with my family. I’m extremely grateful to have this opportunity and I probably would have never left America if it wasn’t for the military.
