“I’m A Soldier Son”

Hi! My name is Michael a.k.a MJ and I was born in South Korea. After Korea, we move in El paso texas. After four years we go back in South Korea again and I became a big brother to my beautiful little sister Mikayla Faith. I started my Pre-k through Kindergarten there and after two years we go back in States and my dad stationed in Virginia. I started my first grade until two months of being fifth grade in David Harrison Elementary School in Virginia. Then after four years In Virginia, my parents decided to move in New York while my dad is stationed in Germany. I loved New York! I’m so happy that I got an opportunity to jump in to middle school instead of continuing my fifth grade in there. I’m glad that even if I just transfer, most of classmates are welcomed me to their class. I’m so lucky, because I meet a good people. My teachers are nice and my friends are kind and they are all nice to me too. I have a good experience and a lot of memories in New York. After eleven months we have to move again to follow my dad. We arrived in Germany last 2022 and we finally reunited with my father. I’m so happy to see my dad and of course to be together again as whole family. Now that I’m here in Germany, I continued my school and currently I’m in 8th grade in Netzaberg Middle School. Life as a Military child was so challenging. Moving to a new school in the middle of the year is one of the scariest things to go through but with my prayers and knowing my family supporting on me, we support each others back, I know everything’s gonna be okay. I know that I can find a way to handle it gracefully. I just remind myself that I’m so lucky because even if we keep moving and moving not everyone have the opportunity to travel every two to four years and grow up in a unique environment with unique challenges. For all the challenges that I face, I know I’m resilient and like my parents, they are motivated each day who adapt and overcome. Growing up as a military child, I realized that the best thing to do is to support my dad. We have to be strong and more patience. While he cannot be with us 24/7. I know that my dad sacrificed a lot, not only for our country but I see that he sacrifices a lot more, for our family too. I know he wanted to give us the best that he could. To be a good father and a good provider to us. That’s why I try to worry less, smile more, and I don’t regret on the life that I have right now. I just try to learned and grow this encourages embracing a positive mindset, instead of dwelling on worries. I will try to focus on smiling more instead of regretting choices, see them as opportunities to learn and grow, to be better in life. It’s a reminder to approach life with optimism and resilience. As we celebrate the month of the military child, I’m so thankful and grateful to be part of this celebration. I am so proud to say that I am a son of a military soldier “SSG. Michael Kevin L.” I’m so honored to be a military child. God bless us all!
