One Experience of a Lifetime

One Experience of a Lifetime

By: Anna L.

For as long as I can remember I have been moving. This is always a great difficulty, but this time I am excited.

I moved from Illinois to Germany, it was a big change for me, but then again I was 7 so I did not know much. I have so far lived in Germany for 2 years, but almost 3 years. I knew this year we would be moving, but I had no idea where it would be.

We’ve been traveling around Europe and we were visiting Croatia. It had already been two days since we arrived and we went down to the beach. We were all enjoying our time with the sun, when my Dad asked if he could talk to us.

We were all there floating in the water when my Dad told me he got a phone call that morning saying where we were going to move. He told us we were moving to Hawaii. I thought my Dad was lying, I asked if he was kidding. He was serious.

I could not believe it. It was my dream just to visit Hawaii, but living there. It was a dream come true. Back when I was living in Illinois we were going to go to Hawaii for Christmas, but then COVID-19 hit and we could not go.

I was so excited even though it was still a year until we moved. Not soon after that, my two friends told me they were also moving there. I would not be alone.

Sometimes being a Military Child is tough, but other times it’s really nice. Even though you will not see your best friends for a while because you may see them again at some point in your life. Just knowing that you have one is enough.

I think being a Military Child means that you get to be special.
