The Adventures of a Military-Connected Child

The Adventures of a Military-Connected Child

By: Ellie A.

Being a military child is great! You get to try new foods, walk around in new places, there is so much you get to do! But most of all, you get to make new friends!

My dad is in the military, and we have moved all over. We’ve lived in California, Alabama, Virginia, Japan, Illinois, Rhode Island, and now Germany! I have made so many good friends. When you move all over the world, you meet some truly amazing people. You get to have new experiences with them, such as your first sleepover, birthday parties, having dinner together, and just generally hanging out with them!

Moving away from your pals is hard. If they are military-connected, they may have to leave you. This is definitely the hardest part about being a military child. If you have to move away from them, or they have to move away from you, it feels like there is nobody left on Earth! But you have to remember that you WILL make new friends, no matter where you go!

You may have some trouble making some buddies, and that’s where family comes in. Your family will always support you through thick and thin. Sad about moving away? Can’t seem to make any friends? Just feeling bored? Your family is always going to be there to lift your spirits. In a way, your family is one of your greatest friends!

All in all, being a military kid is great! Making close friends along the way is going to happen. You can share your experiences with them. Moving away is hard, but that “best friend” named family will help you out. In my opinion, being a military child is SO amazing! I have been so blessed to be able to move all around the world!
