My Dandelion Life

My Dandelion Life

By Mackenzie H.

Dear Stars and Stripes,

I am Mackenzie H. and I am a military connected child. My parents aren’t in the military, but they both support the military. They are both teachers for military schools and teach military kids. My mom is a sub and my dad is a P.E. teacher.

Military children usually move every three years, but I have only moved once in my life and that was when I was three.(The military child symbol is a dandelion because a dandelion’s seeds spread like we move.) I am ten now. Before I turned three we lived in a small German village in Germany, Europe. When I was three we moved into the house I'm living in now. We never had to move because my parents were always working in the same place.

Staying in the same place was hard too. We never moved every three years, but everyone around us did. All of our friends. It was hard to see old friends move away and hard to make new friends. A lot of people thought I was lucky, but it was very hard to make new friends every three years.

It is hard being a military connected child. But it’s good in some ways. For instance you don’t have to move every three years. Being a military connected child is good and bad.
