Isabella L...

Military B.R.A.T. By: Isabella L.

Ever since I was a small child, we would be moving to different countries or states, and meeting new people along the way. Even though it was tough to leave behind my closest friends and teachers, there was always a sense of adventure and excitement in seeing new places.

Some of my most unforgettable memories were moving across the United States. I met many great people and friends on my journey as a military brat, but it was sad to leave them behind. Sometimes, the memories of my past in different countries and states come back to haunt me, and make me want to stay in one place forever, but I love traveling and exploring new places, so those happy memories leave my headspace.

As I grew older, I heard that the children of military parents are known as, “Military Brats.” I wondered what the title meant most of the time, so I did a quick search on the Internet and found that, “BRAT,” stands for British Regiment Attached Traveler. I thought the name suited children like me, and it felt better knowing that many kids were also out there moving around for their parents' work.

The places I have seen as a very small child were extraordinary, tall green trees towering above me as we drove down a road to our new house, and bright blue skies hanging above me like a blanket. Those memories were the best, and I treasure them forever. The neighborhood we lived in was great as well, and soon I had friends from different houses.

Due to my family moving around a lot, I have grown a strong likeness with airports. It might be a weird favorite thing to have, but airports to me are awesome. When you are waiting to get on your flight, you can look out of the big glass windows and see some of the planes takeoff into the beautiful blue sky. Also, there are some restaurants or fast food places that have excellent food that you can eat before your flight.

Today, I am 12 years old and life as a Military Brat is adventurous. There are many places to visit in the area I am living in today, such as the Heidelberg Castle in Germany, Big Ben in London, Harry Potter Studio, Eiffel Tower in Paris, and many more.

As a Military Brat, I dream to serve as an Oncologist in the military and my future children and great grandchildren would travel the world like me.
