Deployment Struggles and Lessons Learned

Do you know what it's like to move around a lot? To have to leave behind friends you made a lot? To have your mom or dad be gone for a while? Do you know what it's like to be a military child?

I know what it’s like to be a military child and I know it feels like a camel, always traveling. Being a military child can have a lot of hardships like friendships lost, being away from a family member, and leaving a place you just got used to. I had some hardships when I was young that I still know about today.

From my years 1-4 things were fine (I don’t remember anything from 1-3)and the fact that my dad was in the military didn’t bother me at all. Things were ok for me for awhile

but when I was 5 my dad got deployed. This had a bad effect on my life because he was gone for what felt like forever and I didn't see him much anymore. This depressed me so much that I started having a lot of bad times.

When my dad got deployed I started having a harder time and I was going to kindergarten.

In kindergarten, I did a lot of bad things, all of these because I was depressed and because my life felt like MATILDA( a book I am comparing to) because my teacher was about to retire and because of this was very strict. Since the teacher would not just ask me “What was wrong?” Instead of just punishing me, this led to me Pouring a bucket of cold water on a person's head, boxing in the hallway with just my fists, being a dying bunny by yelling ETC. The only thing that I was pleased about was there was a co-teacher who was trying to help but got yelled at by the main teacher.

What helped me the most was That my mom got me with a deployment counselor and this helped me calm down, this and kindergarten ending. When Dad came back he brought back a souvenir, which was a fragile glass camel. Ever Since then when my dad got deployed I have been calmer, cause I know, Dad will come back, and his memory will never be forgotten till he’s back! Since then I've had my share of troubles, as in moving away from friends, and leaving places I would probably never see again. Through all of this, it is important to know one thing, that all you or your dad or mom are doing is for your state, for the government, and for all who live in the USA!
