“The Many Tongued Mimic” is a poem about a fictional creature named the “many tongued mimic”. It first appeared one day around 30 years ago, in New York State, but started to be spotted in the city itself around 25 years ago. Nowadays, spottings have been seen in the East coast. Its name derives from its ability to mimic many different animal and mechanical sounds, like birds, cars, wheels, and dogs. It may use these sounds for mating purposes, but its greatest use is for deception. At night, they use sounds like a dog barking or whining to lure people towards them, and when the time is right, it swoops down to attack and eats their flesh. Strangely enough, they have only been observed consuming human flesh. The many tongued mimics are nocturnal animals, and mysteriously disappear when the sun rises. The location where they disappear off to, however, is unknown. Not many have been able to fully observe the Many tongued mimic and survive, but the one thing they know for sure is that it possesses deep, almost obsidian black wings. This serves to help them blend in with their nocturnal environment. The wingspan is said to be around 12 feet wide by hearsay, with the animal’s height being said to be around 5 feet.
