The meaning behind the poem:
The strange pet shop is about a pet shop in New York. This is a different world of whimsical
unorganized madness, and Mocking birds are illegal to own. The pet shop owner wants to show
the world that Mockingbirds aren't as bad as people think, but are beautiful things. He then
captures them and sells them but people keep thinking that they are really robots because they
make noises that animals shouldnt make, like a car alarm. The New York petshop owner
eventually proves that they are real and people begin to buy them. He becomes the most
popular pet shop owner in New York.
