Cheery voiced, Coast to coast, Adaptable and colorful, As sweet as a bird song, From Tennessee to Texas, Sweet and gurgling, The Mississippi tumbles, Down the East coast, And through Mississippi, Reflections like windows, Frogs and insects, Songs as sweet as berries, From New York, To the Great Plains, The Mississippi in the East
This poem is about the ever-expansive Mississippi river. It has always been a necessity for America, from it being used to transport settlers, to supplies, to the American way of life and influence. It is heavily used, even to this day. With over 175 million pounds of cargo shipped by using the river, it is America’s watery artery. The river has beautiful scenery and has been known to have popular water-based activities along its banks. On top of all of this its banks have been farmed for generations, from the fertile soil being washed upon the banks for thousands of years. There is no doubt that Mississippi is an important lifeblood of our beloved nation.
