2024/Heidi-

My name is Heidi and I have 8 siblings and I have moved twice. My dad has been in the military for 27 years and I have been a military child for all my life.

As a military child, I moved Okinawa almost 5 years ago. One challenge you face as a military child is having to say goodbye to friends. My family has extended twice so I have seen a lot of people go. Another challenge is being away from family.

Being a military child can be awesome because we get to travel and live in other places. You can learn about other cultures and teach people about that culture. Another advantage is that you can make friends around the world!

I have lived in Texas, Illinois, and Okinawa. I was born in Texas, lived in Illinois for three years, and have spent the rest of my life in Okinawa. It has been fun to live in different places.

My advice is to make new friends! Another tip is to be yourself. If you just hold on to who you are, people will most likely want to be your friend. Also, if you are in a place and don’t know the language, I recommend you learn it. It might even be helpful later in life.

My life as a military child is great because I have lots of friends. At times, I have a not-so-good-of-a-day, but I am still doing the best that I can and improving each day.
