What is it like being a military child? I have been a military child since I was born because my dad was in the military for 10 years before I was born. Being a military child has its advantages and challenges, and in this essay, I will explain my experiences with both.

One of the benefits of being a military child is the opportunity to move around to different places in the world, such as Japan, Italy, and my favorite place, Texas. I enjoy meeting new people everywhere I go and learning about various cultures. Additionally, I get to travel to different locations during the summer, which is something I do frequently.

However, there are also some disadvantages to being a military child, particularly the frequent moves. For example, I lived in Texas for three years before having to move to Japan, and I was sad about leaving. I have moved seven times already, and each transition has been challenging. Moving overseas can be especially tough because I have to leave all my family in the States. Since all of my family lives in the USA, it has been hard for them too.

Despite these challenges, I am fortunate to have the chance to experience different places, as many people do not have this opportunity. I admire my dad for his service in the US Air Force; he is probably the best boss anyone could have. My mom is a teacher and finally secured a position as a DoDEA teacher after several years of applying.

I believe in maintaining a growth mindset, which helps me focus on the positives rather than the negatives. I see things as half full rather than half empty.

What I have learned as a military child is that we will have to move frequently and meet new people, experiencing many different cultures along the way. As military children, we must strive to see the good in relocating to different places while embracing a growth mindset and viewing the glass as half full.
