“I am sorry I put you guys through this kind of life.” Words my dad has said to me filled me with melancholy. Sometimes I do hold grudges against him for the experiences I had to go through, and the idea of moving fills me with resentment. This is because one move in particular helped turn my instability into gratitude. Prior to moving, my first year of high school was my personal hellfire. My lunchtime was spent in the bathroom and I always preferred being assigned partners than choosing them. I felt like my life was deteriorating each day. I needed to consult with a psychiatrist for my mental being, but nothing was working and for once I begged for change. Finally, the opportunity to move was presented in front of me and dare I say this is the best thing that ever happened to me. At the age of 15, I moved across the country. This opened new doors for me, for new relationships, new environments, and new experiences. This boosted my mental health significantly. I learned how to connect with people as well as find a place to call home. I easily adapted to the world and people around me, and it has filled me with a positive mind set that leaves me forever appreciative of being a military brat.
