The Star-Spangled Man

Dear Dad,

It’s been a while. Mom said you would be gone for a few months, but it’s been a year. Do you know when you’re coming back? If so, I have a lot to tell you. Everything has changed since you left. The tree in our backyard fell and collapsed onto our roof. Maybe Mom already told you, but I just wanted to be sure you knew. I overheard Mom saying that the cost of repairing our home might stop me from getting a Christmas gift. Please change her mind. Also, I know you got me a bunch of Lego sets on my birthday, but I think I’ve outgrown Lego. It just doesn’t feel the same when I pick them up. Sure, I like building them, but that’s about it. Instead of buying me Lego, can you please gift me an iPad next time? All of my classmates have one, or some other type of device, and I don’t. That reminds me; do you get to go on your phone when you’re out there deployed? Do you play any games with your friends? It must be fun being with the boys. I wish I could be there with you. I know that your ship is always moving and going places. What type of places have you been? Has it only been places in the U.S.? Considering that, you’ve probably gotten seasick a lot. Or maybe you’ve gotten used to it. If you’re not used to it, I’d suggest drinking some water. Mom says that staying hydrated solves most of people’s problems. How do you even properly get drinking water when you’re out on the ship? Is it all stored somewhere? Make sure the supply doesn’t run out. Speaking of water, how about food? Do you eat a lot of processed foods? It must suck. Stay safe Dad, and don’t get seasick. Drink more water, please. Remember, you’re my Star-Spangled Man.
