I am from the Land of the Rising Sun. From ginkgo trees and jinja/shrines. I am from the kimonos under the cherry blossom sky. It smelled like the pinkest of trees. I am from the place where Anime roams, The deer run free Whose festivals and tales I remember as if they were my own.
I am from freedom and peace, from teacher and worker. I am from the nice And the dark, From “Get over here!” and “Shush!” I am from graceful ballet With a pirouette And ten poses I can do myself
I am from hurricanes and crystal beaches, Brown-shelled turtles and bumpy alligators. From the BFF lost to the PCS To the tricks used to keep happy. Under my bed was a fairy jar spilling silvery glitter, A dim glow of starlight, To drift beneath my dreams. I am from those moments- The dark before I gained the light. I am a purple dandelion falling from the family tree.
