Where I'm From

I am from the Peach State

From peanuts and pecans

I am from Stone Mountain under the Rock City

Smelled like Amicalola Falls

I am from the South

The lovely Shasta daisy

Whose white petals I remember as if they were my own.

I am from the Tar Heel and Great Smoky Mountains.

From Wilbert and Jeanette

I am from the athletics

And the nice

From quiet and shush

I am from American sports

With a specific ball

And ten shots I can make myself.

I’m from Aloha and pineapples.

Palm trees and sandy shores.

From the Ocean breeze lost to the sunset glow

To the weathered used to keep memories

Under my bed was a coconut spilling sweet nectar

A golden treasure of seashells

To drift beneath my dreams.

I am from those moments

Woven in laughter before I drifted

I am a leaf whispered from the family tree.
