Where I’m From

I am from The Last Frontier,

From Denali and dog sled races.

I am from the Black Forest under the Milky Way.

It smelled like freshly baked pastries.

I am from the elk

The big antlers

Whose eyes I remember

As if they were my own.

I am from hanboks and Korean BBQ,

From Problem Solver and Stay-at-Home.

I am from the chefs

And the hikers,

From “Time for dinner!” and “Get over here.”

I am from the rose-pink cherry blossoms

With the smell of ginkgo berries

And ten goals I can make myself.

I am from soccer and piano,

Dungeons and Dragons and the Guitar.

From the friends lost to the PCS

To the people that used to keep me happy.

Under my bed was a purple box spilling character sheets,

Thousands of memories

To drift beneath my dreams.

I am from those moments -

Plane to plane before I move.

I am a Dandelion sprouting from the family tree.
