Where I’m From

I am from where the big eye is,

From where we love fish and chips and smoked fish.

I am from the island under the sky.

Smelled like dandelions.

I am from a small house in a big world,

The purple flower fields

Whose mid breezes I remember.

I am from where we play the bagpipe and the myth of ness,

From where ayam goreng and opor ayam.

I am from Mom and Abi;

The funny and cool dad.

From baking cookies to cooking Indonesia’s famous dishes

I am from the time when my parents said they would give me the giant “SHHH!”

When I’m grunting, doing CrossFit.

And ten workouts I can complete myself.

I’m from a cruel environment and loving makers,

Using exercises as a healthy outlet for my emotions

Leaving the negative to meet the positive.

To the friends who used to keep me happy.

Under my bed was a box spilling with letters,

A rushed life in a rushed world,

Perfect days and a perfect life

Drift beneath my dreams.

I am from those moments

Cry before I fly.

I am a leaf falling from the family tree.
