Where I’m From

I am from the Land of the Morning Calm,

From the wind and high mountains.

I am from the homes of tall buildings under the foggy skies.

It smelled like fresh breezes and plants.

I am from light grey skies,

The family of technology and justice

Whose future plans I remember.

I am from the tile roof and freedom,

From Cyber Defense and Stay-at-Home.

I am from the helping me expand my talents,

The cooking and drawing.

From “Clean up dishes!!” and “What's with the noises?!”

I am from the imaginative ideas

With pencil and paper

And then drawings I can create myself.

I’m from writing stories and the arts,

the inventive and socializing.

From the best friend lost to the PCS

To the notebooks used to keep me entertained.

Under my bed was a purple purse spilling dandelion messages,

A long feeling of loneliness to drifting away with new faces

To drift beneath my dreams.

I am from those moments -

Failing before I succeeded.

I am a leaf trying to shine from the family tree.
