I'm a Military Brat

Being a military brat can be hard, but it’s also cool too. I’ve already moved 4 times. I know that’s not a lot compared to other military kids, but it is a lot more than other kids that aren’t military brats. The cool part about it though, is that we can go to different places around the world! I’ve been to Oklahoma, Washington, Utah, and then we flew all the way here to Okinawa. And because we live in Okinawa, it means we can travel to places like Korea, and we’ve even been to Australia! But that also means my dad is away from home a lot. In Washington, he went on a deployment for an entire year, and when he got home early I was coming home from school and when I saw him – I was 5 at the time – I started crying, threw my backpack down, and ran to hug him. It’s one of my happiest moments. But, even though that happened, being a military brat has been fun, besides going across the world. We get special permissions that non-military kids don’t. We got to ride in one of my dad’s planes to Alaska and it didn’t cost anything! And at the Officer’s Club there’s a family party every 2nd Wednesday of the month, and only military families are allowed to go – with memberships of course. The military also pays for a lot of things for us because my dad is a Major. So even though being a military child can be really hard, it also can be fun.
