If I Were Poems

I am white, built by layer

I am a wave “goodbye” that never fall

I remember the number 9, 9 rooms and 9 lives

I am a sea turtle, always drifting, with home behind and distant skies

I remember a school bell’s ring, a sound that reminds of a last life

I let go of anxiety, sitting in the back of the crowded cafeterias.

I remember the breeze, carrying the scent of somewhere else

I am a willow tree, wandering winds tugging with grace

I am a circle, endings blurred by beginnings

I am tired.
