I AM Poem

I am an irregular shape lacking the symmetry and uniformity of regular shapes

I shape myself based on my environment

I glide and soar and catch the wind in the same gust

I am the place in between my moves shaping who I am as a person

I am rain forever in the water cycle

Scared of being dropped in the wrong direction

I remember being a tortoise surviving evolutions of change

If I were a color, I would be camouflage green, always blending, constantly adapting

If I were a sound I’d be the wooshing of the wind always moving

If I were a car, I'd be a jeep, rugged, reliable, and ready for any terrain

I am afraid of forgetting the faces and places that I once knew

I am an echo of everywhere I have been

I make home where I am

I am a military child resilient and whole
