Vow of a Military kid

I’ve been a Military kid for as long as I can remember.

My dad has been serving my whole life, and I’ve gone with him wherever he’s stationed, whether that’s the U.S.A or here: Okinawa Japan.

I think that being a Military kid is very cool.

We get to live through new experiences like no other.

It would be a huge lie if I said that the Military life was easy though.

It’s not.

I find myself crying over friends that have PCS-ed sometimes, wishing I wasn’t part of this Military life.

I find myself trying to make new friends over and over again, coping with a different environment, a different lifestyle.

But if I’ve learned anything by my dad’s service, it’s dedication.

The way he willingly serves, going wherever he’s sent, even if it’s the other side of the world, has always held this sense of deep awe in my heart.

I see dedication wherever we go here in the bases of Okinawa.

The simple salutes, the colors of the flag, and the reverent silence while the national anthem is playing show me that we hold a deep respect and love for our country.

These simple acts portray a simple message to me.

Commitment. Integrity. Loyalty.

And as a Military Kid, I’m dedicating myself to these things.

Yes, it’s not easy.

But I’m not giving up.

Military Kids are as strong as the Military themselves, but not with fancy uniforms or salutes. With commitment, integrity, and loyalty.
