Yokota Middle School
“No, I don’t want to!”, my sister yelled angrily.
This was what happened in the summer of 2018 when my parents calmly explained to my sister, Taylor and I that we would very soon be moving to Japan. This was because my dad got a new job at Yokota Air Base. My sister’s screaming was literally as loud as a trumpet! All I did was ask a few questions and say, “Cool!” Honestly, I was thrilled to move because I love going on the plane to watch movies and eat, but my sister on the other hand, was very sad to leave Indiana, as we lived there for 4 years. Everything was going great for me and I enjoyed the 14 hour long plane trip, but when we finally got to Japan, it was horrible since my family and I were all on jetlag. I was so tired that I thought I could sleep forever! We rode a bus all the way to Tachikawa and since my dad got to Japan before us to get settled in first, he picked us up from there. My family and I lived in the TLF for the first few weeks, but then my parents bought a house offbase. At first, I actually thought that living offbase was pretty cool since I lived near Tama River, but very quickly, I began to envy my friends who lived on base. It was so much more convenient and closer to the schools. To this day, I still wish that we live on base.
