Where I’m From (Inspired By George Ella Lyon)
I am from the Land of the Gold
From the broad red bridge and the grand cities.
I am from paved roads under the looming bridges,
Bears, Redwood trees, it tasted like bright sunshine.
I am from the sourdough and cheeseburgers
The delectable flavor
Whose taste I remember
as if they were my own.
I’m from Roderick and Laurice,
From Lito and Rebecca.
I’m from Yosemite National Park and the obsolete gold mines,
From immense forests and precious gold ore!
I’m from Zelda’s Kingdom
With a sturdy shield and a legendary sword
And ten attacks I can do myself.
I’m from piers and West Coast,
Populous and picturesque.
From the billowy rabbit lost to the PCS,
Used to keep me calm and content.
Under my bed was a purple graphic novel
Spilling colorful and fun pictures,
To drift beneath my dreams.
I am from those moments-
Elated before I said farewell-
I am a tiny leaf clinging to the family tree.
