Yokosuka Middle School
My name is Hunter Kim. I am 12, and I live in Japan. There are so many perks to being a military child, but you don’t hear much about the price of being one. So, here’s what I think are some annoying things that military children have to experience. First of all, what I think the least annoying thing about being a military child is moving to a new place, which causes two things: One, making and leaving friends and Two, going to a new school. Speaking from experience, it was not fun having to make new friends, especially when you or the person end up leaving a year or two later. The fourth most annoying things about being a military child is your parent(s) deploying for months at a time, so you only have one parent (most likely) taking care of you, which is inconvenient when the parent has to go on errands, so they drag you along. Another thing that is annoying is your living situation. There is sometimes the sound of jets and/or you live in a smaller home. Then you have the stores, which are good in all respects, but they’re not big, so they don’t sell certain items. Finally, one of the most annoying things is not being able to get your favorite FOOD and go to your favorite restaurants. American burgers, New York style pizza, and good tacos and burritos? Gone. But, being a military child is still the best.
