I am currently not a military child, because my dad is a Civilian.
My dad was previously in the Navy and has been stationed in Hong Kong, Bahrain, Perth and a few other places in Japan, but the first places I remember the most while my dad was in the Navy were Sasebo and Yokosuka. At that time, I attended Japanese public school. After my dad retired, we came to Iwakuni as civilians. My experience as a civilian seems okay, but it is also annoying to repack and unpack your stuff when you move, just like when I was a military child. Since Iwakuni is an air station, it can be annoying to deal with air field and ship noise in the morning and at night. The main reason my dad decided to come to Iwakuni as a civilian was because he wanted me and my sister to experience living in Japan again before I graduate and decide where to live when I grow up. Although my friends in the United States miss me and want me to come back, but I might not return. I’ll just try to visit If I got the chance and time.
The best part of living here is meeting the old friends I knew when I lived in Sasebo and Yokosuka. My dad’s military life has made me want to travel more so I thank him for it.
