Being a military child is simultaneously the worst and best part of my life. I think a lot of military kids could say the same thing. As a military child, I am expected to up and move whenever, no questions asked. I am forced to leave my extended family, my friends, my life, the place I used to call home. There is the feeling of uncertainty that I have never gotten used to. The what if questions never end: What if I was there a little longer? What might have happened? What if I moved there instead of here? What would my life look like if a random guy in his office hadn’t decided to move my family here? But at the same time being a military child has given me some fun memories, lifelong friends, and great experiences and opportunities. It has let me travel the world and end up here in Japan, somewhere I never thought I would live. It teaches me to adapt to my environment. When I get older and try to get a job, it will be easier because I am a military child. That title comes with a certain level of expectation, to have more discipline and respect than the average person.
