I ran out of the plane excited to live in a brand new place to explore, see cool things, make nice friends, try tasty food, and learn new cultures. That’s the life of the military! Being a military child is exciting! My favorite things about being a military child are trying new food, exploring cool places, having kind friends, and experiencing cool cultures like Okinawa's cultures. If I never came to Japan I would have never tried Onigereiry. Also with Okinawa’s culture I wouldn’t know that it is polite to bow to an elder. In Japan there are so many places I wouldn’t see or go to if I never came here. I also have friends all over the world. I was going to the restroom in Okinawa when my friend Vivian from Virginia was coming back and I almost bumped into her and it just clicked and I was like, “Vivan?” and she said, “Amelia?”. I was so happy to see her again. Today I'm lucky she is in my same class and my old friend Michael, also from Virginia! My least favorite things about being a military child are parent deployment, leaving friends, leaving the place you love, and having your parents at work all day. Like when my dad was gone on deployment and he wasn’t home for my birthday, or when I had to leave my best friend Kelby when I had to go to Japan. That is what I like and dislike about being a military child. I think this life is the perfect one for me.
