I say I'm from the South but I’m technically from Utah

Mama says I’m Utahan because that's where I grew up

Daddy says I’m southern due to my roots

But what roots?

The roots that get torn up from the ground every three years

The roots that were forced to learn the new land,

the swamps of Louisiana, the red sand of Hawaii, the desert dirt of Utah, and all in between

I say my roots are in the south but where are they really?
