Never Staying In One Place By Olive Coffield My name is Olive! My father is in the Air Force. Here are my experiences being a military child! There are many good things about being a military child, but there are downsides too. Let’s get into it! Firstly, I was born in North Carolina in a town full of gangs. So my parents quickly asked the military if we could move. The military agreed and we left for Virginia. In Virginia, my twin sister and I made a lifelong friendship with two other military children named Keegan and Lane. We had a happy life in Virginia until we had to move to Florida. Back then I thought Florida was a beach and sunshine everywhere and it was amazing. Trust me.. That's not Florida. Next, we moved to Tampa Bay, and Florida was an incredible place to live. I lived in a cul-de-sac with 5 other kids and it was amazing. I made many, many friends! Braxton, Xavier, Ethan, Fin, and Nala were all my friends. We would meet up to play, bike, and draw every Friday and Saturday. It was probably the best place I have ever lived! But after four years we had to move to… FLORIDA again. My family and I moved to Panama city, Florida. I went to Tyndall Academy. I didn’t really like moving there too much, but I got to deal with that. It smelled terrible there! But I did become friends with somebody named Finley and his sister, Mikayla. We would go to their house every day after school while our mother and father worked late. It was nice until after three years we moved to GERMANY! Germany is my second favorite place and there are many places to travel. I love being a military child! I am proud of it and moving is FUN! (Sometimes) Our symbol is the dandelion. This is because we can sprout and grow anywhere. We are resilient and strong. In conclusion, being a military connected kid is great. So if your parent ever joins the military, don’t be scared! Be proud! You get to move, explore, and experience different cultures!
