Ellsworth C...

Tale of a Military Kid

My name is Ellsworth. I am eight years old. My birthday is in January. I live with my Mom and Dad, and my brother, Rey. My favorite food is rice! I also have 2 dogs. Their names are Rocky and Marshall. They are both named from the show, Paw Patrol. My favorite sport is Jiu Jitsu. Being a military child is hard when my family moves or I lose friends (but I might see them again). When I go to a new school, I look for friends and things that I like. I say goodbye like I’m going to a new school this month or this is my last day to be here. My friends react like when are you moving to a new school?; is it tomorrow?!

My classmates reacted to me like, “Hi, Ellsworth!”, really LOUDLY! I was like to my family, “Why didn't you tell me where are we moving!”

When it was time for me to move, my classmates and friends helped me get everything from my bin and put it in my backpack. The thing that I liked about my house before, was that it had bunk beds and a big living room. I have lived in San-Diego, Japan, Philippines, Kyoto, Yokosuka and Bahrain.

My favorite place to live is Japan because there is no trash and everyone is nice.

The only thing that changed at my new school we didn’t have cubbies for our backpacks. The things that are hardest is when my parents leave. I can’t see them for like 4 weeks. The best place I ever lived was Bahrain. I was born in San Diego. My Dad was born in America. My Mom was born in Panama. EXTRA!: As soon I was born, my great grandpa passed away. I have two aunties and one uncle. When I was born, my dad was not there.

My Dad’s name is Reynald. He’s thirty-nine years old. He was born in Pittsburgh, California, in the Bay Area. I had three siblings growing up. Mom, dad, older sister, younger sister (U.S.A.)sister two brothers (Philippines.) His siblings grew up in the Philippines while he grew up in America. He has 2 children of my own I’m always being called 24/7He joined the U. S. Navy to start his life and see the world. He likes spending time with his family, working out with jiu-jitsu, playing with the dogs, eating, traveling, and having Family Game Night or Movie Night. He loves to eat whatever my Mom cooks him, like, Filipino food: “kare kare” (which is oxtail), ice cream and jerk chicken. His favorite book of all time is the Bible. He likes to shop at the farmers market on the weekend mornings with his wife (my Mom) and play sports (especially football) with us kids.

My Dad is the Material Readiness Officer at MCMRON SEVEN. He tracks and supervises equipment status such as: repairs, tests, and scheduling of four U.S. Navy ships (MCM’s). He likes traveling the world meeting new people, and most importantly, having his family with him everywhere that the Navy sends him. My Dad says that when you have to leave behind familiar things like grocery shops, house, car, climate, friends, and ETC, it makes life a little hard. He likes making memories with us and knowing that we are safe makes it worth it, when he has to leave. He likes knowing that my Mom and he provide us opportunities to succeed in life. He likes to play video games, cards, sit around and talk with his friends. They listen to him, spend time when they can and most importantly, they send him reels or tag him on Instagram posts. He says that it’s sometimes difficult to find people who like similar things and have families that are the same age. Meeting my older sister, two older brothers, and four nieces in Manila, Philippines was something that my Dad will never forget. In 2018, he got to go to port with the USS Bonhomme Richard.

My Dad says that when it’s time to move, you have to decide on what clothes to pack based on where you want to move and check what season it is over there. “We try to allow our kids the most amount of time possible to spend time with their friends before we leave.” We also talk about what we look forward to seeing or doing the most at the new location.

My family has video game night, movie night, cleaning days, pizza days, Taco Tuesdays, and beach and pool days in the summer. My Dad loves protecting my family, country, and interacting with people from around the world.
