Where I’m From

I am from Cornhuskers,

From severe tornadoes and sparkly, cold, snow.

I am from the earthy leaves under the tree

It smelled like summer air.

I am from The Land of The Morning Calm,

The pretty Chuseok whose delicious, fresh Tteobokki

I remember as if they were my own.

I am from Master Sergeants and Intel,

From William and Brianna.

I am fearless and mature,

from “be quiet!” and “Come here please!”.

I am from the mighty military with a bold color purple

And ten annoying hours on a plane I can do myself.

I am from tall skyscrapers and temples,

Seoraksan Mountain and hanbok.

From the people I lost,

to the people I met.

From the phone used to keep me in touch.

Under my bed was a treasure chest spilling papers

A wonderful notebook of stories

To drift beneath my dreams.

I am from those moments _

cherished before I moved

I am a dandelion sprouted from the family tree
