I’m A Military Child

What does it feel like to be a military child? If I were to give 3 words of how it is to be a military child I would say it's a lot of adjustment, opportunities and change. A little background about me, I’ve been a military child for 10 years and counting. I’ve been to 3 different duty stations. I’m currently stationed in Camp Walker, South Korea.

I’ll start with all the amazing memories and experiences I’ve had being a military child. You create this community that becomes family everywhere you go. Making new friends and having to look forward to what’s next is great. Being able to travel all around the world and explore new things is a huge plus. Learning languages, their cultures, exploring new food, just being exposed to amazing difference things that I know not everyone has the opportunity to do.

It’s for sure not all sunshine and rainbows, a lot of mental struggles come with being a military child. Leaving places to places where you made it your home for a couple of years and found some forever friends that are tough to leave behind. Always being the new kid and having to start all over, that’s overwhelming. Change is never easy but I focus on opportunities that’s ahead of me and my family. Overall I wouldn’t trade it for the world I have. It makes me resilient, strong, and confident to keep going and that’s what makes me a military child.
