What is it like to be a Military Child?

What is it like to be a military child? I think it’s fun to travel but, when you move to different places you move away from your friends and family. And sometimes your mom or dad that’s in the military have to go on a work trip and you can’t come with them, sure it’s sad but you can get lots of presents from different places.

When I first moved to Guam it was near the end of first quarter in school. When I went into the classroom everyone was looking at me. The substitute asked one of my classmates to help me. She soon became one of my best friends. I was shy at first but when you move, you explore and become friends with different people and learn about new cultures.

Since we move around a lot my brother is my closest family member in my part of the Taino family. He knows what I have been through and when we get in trouble, he and I do our secret language. He and I agree on some things like we both don’t like moving around a lot and want to go back to places we were before. I’m a military brat and so is he so I’m glad he is here with me, wherever we go.

When you're a military child, you move or PCS a lot. You can probably meet family you have never met before. Like in Las Vegas, four of my cousins live there. I didn't even know we would meet them there. And one of them is my BFF and she and I have about the same personality. Whenever we meet, it feels like another world. That’s one of the perks of being stationed in so many different places.

That is what I think being a military child is about in my opinion. You can learn different languages and speak with people you want to be friends with and communicate with their friends too. You visit with your family and enjoy new places.
