Being a military child, it’s quite the experience. It has both good and bad sides to it. Being in a military family might not seem too different from regular civilian families, but that’s because it really isn’t that different, the only changes would be moving around often to different countries depending on where your active military parent is being stationed at, occasional separation of families if the active military parent gets put on deployment overseas and such. But other than that the families themselves are not very different. But socially, it’s a completely different experience. Since people tend to move within 3 years, maybe even less, making friends is easy but keeping those friends can be difficult because either you or them are going to move at some point. You could just keep in contact with them but the close physical friendship won’t be there as much anymore. It’s the bond that can be hard to make as a military child because of all the moving around. For me personally I wasn’t too worried or anxious when it came to moving around because I never really had friends that close back then. Over middle and high school I started making close friends but even then we still keep in contact across the world. Overall being a military child isn’t bad at all, its actually quite fun since you get to move around the world and see many things. Also being in government schools filled with military families you get to meet people from all around the world you otherwise wouldn’t meet in a civilian family in public schools.
