Where I Am From

From the lands of Cherry Blossoms to deserts of the west

Where all my siblings grown in a big world of surprise

The phrase “You’re doing awesome” always struck through my chest

As I walk to school alone with no hope in my eyes

No matter where my father we knew he fought his best

His deployments to the (middle) east always kept me in fear

Learning English with my mother until he returns to the nest

Family of six jumping in feast with eyes full of tears

We always loved to listen to our fathers valiant gest

At the Rainbow State or even the Land of Enchantment

These types of memories glisten especially moments of jest

Happiness is hard to believe in mainly with detachment

Academics are highly regarded as we reach the beehive state

“But the most important of all, is to try my best”

Don’t worry about the departed or even the near fate

Whether on the stage or study hall, sadness must not be expressed

Sometimes it’s a struggle to be a child of the military

While cold air often hits with adjustment to revisionary

As compared to others around us, we are expeditionary

Jumping into new societies flowing like a tributary

But we stay resilient and flee away from solitary

Having a wide perspective and becoming more visionary

I am a military child
