Final Thoughts on Growing Up as a Military Child

The last time I wrote one of these was in second grade, during springtime at Yokota Air Base. I believe my work was published in the paper. Looking back to this memory as a senior makes me a little nostalgic of all the memories and friends I’ve made over the years as a military child.

I didn't quite understand the term 'Military Brat' back then. Growing up, we move around and lose friends. We never feel truly grounded in a community. We have to go months, even years without seeing our military parent. How does this make us a brat?

It’s the experiences I've learned to be grateful for all the people I’ve met, all the cultures I’ve experienced, and the privilege of learning to adapt to new environments. Being a military child has prepared me for my adult life.

No matter where I end up going in life, I will never forget this amazing childhood I had with the military. Thank you to all who serve for the opportunity to live this life.

Love you, dad!
